The Witcher Remake was announced in 2022, and it has been a long time since we got an update from developers. However, it is for a good reason. The developer has taken The Witcher Remake project seriously, and they do not want to present just the “old” game with tiny graphical improvements.
The goal behind The Witcher Remake is to eradicate the mistakes made in the original version. Since the game is very old, the developer will also be removing elements that are not required in the current gaming era.
The original 2007 game would not just get the graphical overhaul but the the entire game would be improved. This was said by the CEO of the company behind The Witcher Remake.
In an interview with GamesRadar, the CEO of Rebel Wolves (the team behind the remake) Jakub Rokosz shared his goals for the upcoming game. He said:
we need an honest, down-to-earth analysis of which parts are simply bad, outdated, and need to be remade.”
In my opinion, this is a perfect take on how a remake should be. In a remake, there should be the “originality” that was available in the OG version, while kicking out the bad elements.
For starters, the game will be built on the Unreal Engine 5, hence you can expect top-notch graphics. The combat system will be improved making it closer to The Witcher 3.
When is The Witcher Remake releasing?
Talking about the release, we should expect the game anytime soon. The first project is The Witcher 4, which will go into production later this year. Only after The Witcher 4, we can expect The Witcher Remake.
I am happy that the developer understands that a remake does not mean just a graphic overhaul. Hopefully, The Witcher Remake will cause excitement among the fans of the franchise.
