Sony has surprised everyone by revealing “Project Q”, a handheld device from the company after a long time. The PlayStation Showcase 2023 event was going a bit dull, and long after the reveal of about 30 games. However, then the PlayStation Boss spiced things up with the announcement of Project Q. It is a handheld device that lets you stream PS5 games. The company also announced new earbuds for immersive audio.
“Project Q” has been the subject of many rumours online, but now it’s official. It’s a device that connects to your PS5 console over Wi-Fi and lets you play any game in your library on an eight-inch HD screen. It also has the same buttons and features as the PS5’s Dualsense controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
Will Project Q require PS5?
Yes, this is absolutely a necessity because the Project Q device is not a console. Yet it is a device that does cloud gaming with PS5. Sony calls this “Remote Play.” This is not a groundbreaking feature and has been here for quite some time now.
I still remember the day downloaded Remote Play on my smartphone so I can stream my PS4 as my TV was in some issues. Now with Project Q, remote play will just become easier and optimized. Of course, the main highlight is that you are getting the full DualSense controller experience that will give you haptic feedback.
PlayStation EarBuds announced: Expect better latency?
Sony also showed off new earbuds that work with any Bluetooth device but are specially designed for PS5 games. They offer high-quality sound and noise cancellation, so you can enjoy your games without distractions.
However, one point here is that Sony specifically pointed out that the EarBuds would work with any Bluetooth device including your PC or smartphone.
There are many TWS earbuds in the market right now, however majority of them are not for gaming. The high latency results in sound lag during game sessions. Since PlayStation has a huge experience in gaming technology, they could possibly solve this problem of high latency.
“Project Q” is expected to launch later in 2023 and compete with other gaming handhelds like Valve’s Steam Deck and Asus’ Rog Ally. It will run games at 1080p60 through Remote Play.
Sony is clearly not giving up on handheld gaming after the PS Vita. “Project Q” could be a game-changer for PS5 owners who want to play their games anywhere.
