When the PlayStation 5 was first released, it received criticism for its large size. It was always expected that Sony would release more design iterations of the console, just as they did with the PS4 – PS4 Standard, Slim, Pro, and others. Now, it’s time for the PS5 Slim. However, according to someone who has seen the prototypes, it may not be slim at all.
Why is everyone talking about the PlayStation 5 Slim?
Many gamers are eagerly anticipating the release of the rumored PlayStation 5 Slim. Microsoft recently mentioned in a court document that Sony plans to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same price as the Digital Edition console. However, Sony has not officially confirmed this.
Another significant hint is that Sony typically releases a new design model after three years. The PS3 Slim was released on the third anniversary of the PS3, and the same is true for the PS4. Now, we expect Sony to maintain this consistency.
There is also another reason why Sony might release the PS5 Slim this year. It coincides with the launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It would be the perfect time to combine the flagship game with the new console and sell it as a bundle!
This insider saw the prototypes and was not impressed
According to Wccftech, games industry insider Tom Henderson discussed the alleged Slim console on Twitter and claimed that it might not be as small as everyone expects.
Henderson is not aware of the release window for the console. However, he believes that there will be no “Slim” moniker this time. Instead, the console will simply be called PlayStation 5. The newly designed console will replace the existing one by the end of the year.
What’s interesting is that Henderson continued by saying that he has only seen prototypes and doesn’t think it will be slim at all, just slightly different dimensions.
If PS5 Slim remains big, then what will the Pro version be like?
Now, this is unusual. We expect some design differences, not just because it was supposed to be a Slim model but because this console should make room for the “Pro” model. The PS5 is already large, while the PS5 Pro, by its name, should be even larger. Hence, it would make sense if the PS5 were made a bit smaller while next year’s Pro get the massive beast look. Whatever it is, Sony has not announced anything yet. So take all of this with a grain of salt. Until there is an official announcement, you can find all of the spicy leaks and rumors at NerdLAD.
