Good news for some PlayStation owners as they may be eligible for compensation from Sony. According to resources, the conglomerate might be facing a $7.9 billion lawsuit. Obviously, this is not good for Sony and they are having bad days. The Japanese company will be facing a multi-billion-pound lawsuit because of a decision made by the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal.
This happened because Sony was facing accusations that they are taking unfair terms on developers by taking a 30% cut. Moreover, it has also been accused of “abusing gamers’ loyalty” by raising consumer prices.
Sony’s Downfall?
This lawsuit was filed back in August 2022 by consumer rights advocate Alex Neill. However, Sony’s team has been fighting over the year, but still, the case is not closed yet.
Because of the lawsuit, PlayStation customers may receive compensation soon. If you have made a PlayStation purchase between August 19, 2016, and August 19, 2022, you might get £67 to £562, plus interest as compensation. We don’t know yet how much time it would take to get the money if you are one of the 8.9 million customers. However, you should keep an eye on the procedure.
Big Problem for Sony
Obviously, these will be tough days for Sony, and we don’t know maybe years will be tough after the accusations made by Neill. The class action representative is yet to have any regrets. “This is the first step in ensuring consumers get back what they’re owed as a result of Sony breaking the law,” he claimed. “PlayStation gamers’ loyalty has been taken advantage of by Sony, who have been charging them excessive prices for years.”
“It is significant that the competition court has recognized Sony must explain its actions by ordering them to trial. With this action, we are seeking to put a stop to this unlawful conduct and ensure customers are compensated.”
