The director of the Far Cry series hinted that they have exciting plans.
Four days ago, Drew Holmes posted on their LinkedIn page that they are now the IP director for the franchise. They wrote: “I’m starting a new job as IP Director of Far Cry at Ubisoft! We have exciting plans ahead. If you want to be part of this great brand’s next phase, feel free to contact me!” Holmes became the new director two years after senior executive Dan Hay left. This left fans curious about the future of their favorite game. Holmes has been with Ubisoft for almost eight years, working as a lead writer, narrative director, and brand narrative lead. If you’re a big Far Cry fan, you’ve seen Holmes’ work in both Far Cry 5 and Far Cry: New Dawn.
The franchise’s future direction is uncertain. But recent job postings suggest that Far Cry 7 is being developed, along with a standalone multiplayer Far Cry game. These upcoming games are expected to be released around late 2025 and will use Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine.
Although it’s quite far away, the fact that someone familiar with the series will lead the project should ease fan’s concerns. However, many things can change between now and 2025, as we all know.
Exciting Changes
As for the “big changes” in the games, only the creative teams know for sure. Fans still wonder about these changes. One desired change is the game’s map. A Reddit user said, “I enjoy open worlds with deserts,” and another person replied, “Personally, I’d prefer a more city-based map. Jungles and deserts have been in previous FC games. A more urban Eastern European vibe would be exciting.”
Leaving maps aside, there are other things that are changing. There will be bad weather, more about the characters. And even some sea journeys with pirates. When we think about pirates, we remember AC Black Flag; no game has done better than the way we played as Edward Kenway.
In brief, fans want everything and they want it quickly. But for now, Ubisoft players have to be happy with the fact that Assassin’s Creed Mirage comes out on 5 October for current-gen consoles and PC.
