As you may know, leaks from GTA 5 source code have uncovered plans for several single-player downloadable content packs that were not released until now. These leaks also hint at a game which was supposed to be a part of the PlayStation 2 lineup. You might be surprised to know that GTA Tokyo was supposed to release long ago, however, it never did.
GTA Tokyo cancellation?
During the GTA IV days, Rockstar Games introduced single-player DLCs, including notable titles like “The Ballad of Gay Tony” and “The Lost and the Damned”. However, fans were expecting the same thing to happen with GTA V but it never came. Moreover, the leaked data reveals that content planned for single-player DLCs was reworked for GTA Online.
GTA 5’s leaked source code confirms Liberty City was once planned to be added as an expansion alongside various other packs similar to RDR1’s DLCs

Among various concepts of GTA V DLCs, there was an idea of revisiting Liberty City. They wanted to go back to the settings of GTA IV and Chinatown Wars. Obviously, players would have loved it because it would have been nostalgic to play the game of their childhood. That’s why fans were disappointed after knowing the cancellations.
Fans’ Disappointment
GTA Tokyo was also set to release in the PS2 era, which is considered one of the best eras of gaming. GTA San Andreas and Vice City were also a part of that. However, this project of GTA Tokyo was hyped and there were discussions about it by the fans. Now, the revival of these gaming projects is almost impossible. On the other hand, it seems fascinating to see how the gaming world has progressed. Many games were under development or in talks and suddenly they got cancelled.
GTA 6 Trailer has finally been released recently. Although fans have to wait for a year for its release, we know that it won’t get cancelled at this point. But you never know.
