Call of Duty is undoubtedly one of the biggest gaming franchises. But did you know, that there was a game called Call of Duty: Future Warfare, which apparently took players to space?
Yes, we know that Call of Duty in past years has started experimenting with futuristic elements such as jetpacks, etc. However, even before, the franchise was interested in exploring different themes.
Call of Duty: NX1, codenamed “Future Warfare” is a canceled game, which was being developed by Neversoft. Now, a new video has emerged online showing the gameplay of this game.

The video that emerged online reveals an early game version from 2011, featuring a mission set on the Moon. The showcased content suggests that Future Warfare would have blended futuristic and traditional ground combat, with remastered maps from iconic Call of Duty games.
The developer says this game would have suspended COD: Ghosts
In a remark on the video, developer Brian Bright clarified that Neversoft was behind Future Warfare and the moon mission seen in the video was ‘primarily about the team getting to grips with the engine’, testing features like low gravity.
This was NX1, after IW imploded and split into Respawn Neversoft pivoted from Guitar Hero to make a futuristic COD game. This mission was on the moon, some experiments with low g and was really about the team learning the engine. We were making GH games on our THPS engine prior.

He further elaborated that this would have superseded COD Ghosts and when the game was canceled, Neversoft had developed ‘2 – 3 campaign missions and a considerable amount of MP work’.
Another comment revealed a purported list of multiplayer maps for Future Warfare, which comprised:
- Legacy Afghan
- Legacy Crash
- Legacy Terminal
- Bin Laden’s Compound
- Gladiator Assault
- Merc Mode Map
- BENK
That said, this canceled game may never be released. However, on the contrary, the franchise is gearing up to launch Call of Duty Project Saturn. A recent report suggests zombies will be back in the upcoming game along with a lot of more spices. Hence, we are looking forward to the new game.
